If you have an outboard motor for your boat use caution when storing gasoline. Remember ~ one pint' of gasoline has about the same explosive power as one pound of dynamite. Too many people think that because gasoline looks like water it acts like water, the fuel (gasoline) that ignites - it is the vapor - and there is always vapor where gasoline is unconfined, What usually happens is that the gasoline becomes vaporized and the unseen spark or a lighted match does the rest, often with fatal results. Safety Rules for Gasoline 1. Never take chances with gasoline. It is one of the most dangerous liquids we handle, 2. Always store it in tightly fastened cans - never in glass bottles, 3. It should never be uncovered in the house or where the fumes can reach open flames or sparks, 4. Do not use it 'for cleaning; get a safe cleaning preparation, 5. Never have more around than what will be considered safe to store, 6. Never smoke when mixing gas and oil for your outboard, 7.. Never get careless -~ it can be fatal. 8, For a gasoline fire use a chemical extinguisher or throw earth or sand on it. Try to smother it. A stream of water will only spread the fire. Dontt think' an empty drum or can of gasoline is not dangerous - an empty tank is more dangerous than a full tank, Don't allow gasoline to be stored in your house. If a small quantity has to be stored have it marked GASOLINE, DANGEROUS} Never store it in glass bottles which can be broken fentt allow a gasoline engine to operate in an unventilated room - the fumes are fatal Don't ever get careless with gasoline or it might be your last deed of carelessness.
