"TERRACE Bay News Authorized as 2nd Class mail, Post Office Department, Ottawa __ Circulation Terrace Bay & Schreiber TOWN COUNCIL GIVE CONSIDERATION TO FORMATION OF POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS a At the regular Council meeting of October 12th discussions were held on the possibility of the Town taking over the Police and Fire activities on a full Municipal basis. At present the police work is done on a contract basis with the Ontario Provincial Police, Fire protection is handled by three regular firemen and a chief who are on the Kimberly-Clark payroll for which the town has paid a sum to Kimberly-Clark for maintaining fire protection services, The Council agreed to advertise for a Chief Constable on a selective basis and if a suitable candidate is available the contract with the Ontario Provincial Police may be terminated at the end of this year, It is anticipated that over a period of time the establishment of a Town police department will cost less than the present method of providing police protection, The Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper Company indicated it wishes to withdraw from Town fire protection services, The Company ex- pressed willingness to assist the town financially for a period of two years in this change-over to a town fire department, This item was referred to the Council Fire Committee for a report, There is then a possibility that early in 1961 the town of Terrace Bay will have its own Police and Fire Department, At this same meeting September accounts from the Library Board, Hydro and Township were passed, Appointment of Mrs, Elicia Evans-Smith to the Library Board was announced, Applications for the position of Town Meter Clerk were opened and Mr, D Caldwell!s accepted and salary established, The Crest designed by A.J.Cumming was approved by Council and he will be the recipient of the prize awarded to the winner of the cohtest run in this connection, Council approved a request to discontinue services to Bucovetsky's Store and duly noted the monthiy fire department report. The Reeve, all councillors, the secretary treasurer and clerk were in attendance at this meeting, WATER CUT-OFF IN SCHREIBER THIS FRIDAY Schreiber residents are urged to store water prior to the proposed cut-off next Friday, October 21st. A twenty-four game schedule was adopted for the four team league. The Annual All- Star game will be played on December 4th with regular league action starting on the weekend of December 10th and 11th. An inter-locking schedule with the Lake- head senior teams was discussed and tabled. The League will write the executive of the of the Lakehead teams regarding such an interlocking schedule, If the Lakehead teams accept N,S.H.L. terms the schedule will provide a home and home series for each | N.S.H,L, team against each Lakehead team, or 24 league games plus 4 exhibition games again st the Lakehead senior teams, Radio station CJLX in Port Arthur was give the exclusive right to broadcast N.S.H.L. gam es from one North Shore town each week, The rules for the N.S.H.L, Queen contest were reviewed and revised.
