September 1, 1960 LABOUR DAY MESSAGE FROM MILL UNIONS This weekend thousands of working men and women will be celebrating 'Labour Day', This day has been declared a national holiday to celebrate the outstanding achievements of all workers who have contributed greatly towards our country's development, Organized labour is deeply concerned about the desecration of labour's own national holiday by the tragic acfidents on the highways, in our homes and elsewhere, The needless deaths of men, women and children and the injury of many others from accidents during labour's special holiday is shocking. Since most victims are workers and members of their families we are asking your help to do something about this situation, Accidents can be prevented if each and everyone of us will take a little more care and a lot less chances, It is only when we decide that we are going to do something about this terrible situation that we will eliminate accidents, Help us on our national holiday weekend to prevent accidents, follow the simple rules of safety, When driving - drive as if your life depends on it - it does. When boating - make sure there is a life preserver for each person and that he wears it, When camping or picnicing - don't forget to carry a first aid kit. When working at home - follow the same safety rules that you would on the job. Remember, it's safety - at home, at play or on the highway over the Labour Day weekend.
