SUPERIORS VERSUS MERCURIES IN SEMIS AT MARATHON, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD. The final outcome of the standings in the North Shore Hockey League were not decided until the final whistle of the game played at Nipigon Tuesday night between Red Rock Royals and Nipigon Flyers. The win by Royals jumped them up the ladder to second spot leaving Superiors third and the Flyers low team. The game also determined the leading scorer of the year. Herman Manilla boosting his points one higher than those held by Whalen and Osmar of: Superiors. Play-offs will now be between Marathon, league leaders, and third spot Superiors. Red Rock's second place contingent will battle with the Nipigon Flyers, winners to meet for the league championship. Superiors will invade the Marathon fort Sunday afternoon 1:30 p.m., February 23rd, and again Tuesday 8:30 p.m. for ooening encounters of a three out of five series. The third game will be played on Superior's home ice Thursday and should a fourth game be necessary it will be played on Sunday at Terrace Bay. A tie-up at-four games forces a fifth at Marathon, Spirit is high in the local den, extensive practicing with all lines present has ironed out most of the faults, and a good play off series is in the offing. Team support is necessary and so is a win on Marathon ice. Tuesday night Sudbury and Toronto played, Sudbury defeated Toronto, by doing so, Sudbury became the Provincial Chamvions. - From all reports received and heard the Terrace Bay Ladies made a very fine showing of Curling Skill, and you can be assured the ladies did their best. The local ladies made a splendid showing and were worthy revresent- atives of Northwestern Ontario. Once again Terrace Bay congratulates Peggy Wellings, Ann Latour, Ida Romaniuk and Sylvia Duquette for capturing the Northwestern Ontario Ladies Curling Champion- ship and coming in Second for the Provincial Chamoionship.
