HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION Though off to a late start, the: Terrace Bay Home.and. School Association are now well - underway with election of officers speedily disposed of, and many plans formulated for the coming season. Mr, Harry Coe, President of the Assoc- iation at its conception, chaired .the meeting lionday evening, October 15th in the absence of Mrs. Harriet Porter, last year's president. Reports were read by "rs, Louella Ginn, Recording Secretary Lr, Joe Wig, Treasurer and lirs, Lois Hopper, Programme Convenor. A letter from Mrs, Foulds, Vice-Pres- ident of the Port Arthur Branch of the Ontario Federation of Home and School Associations suggested teachers or re- presentatives be sent to workshops to be held in Kenora and Atikoken, This was referred to the Executive for their perusal, Another letter regarding Junior Teen Town in Terrace Bay was thoroughly discussed, and' while it was felt there already existed an excessive number of junior activies this too was referred to the executive for their .in- vestigation. Mrs. Hopper asked if the Home and School wouldc sponsor a skate exchange as in the previous seasons. Malcolm Craig and Mrs, Peggy Helmink volunteered to line up some teenavers to assist them with this project. Mr. Ray Kemey, principal of the Sep- arate School outlined his correspondence . with the American Optical Company regard- ing their "School Vision Test" after it had been forcibly brought to his attention the antiquated methods by which the school Nurse had to test eyesight. This test is suitable for the smallest child, including Grade one and Kindergarten. It was decided to bring the kit here for trial purposes by the Medical, Health Officer and School Nurse, Principals of the three).schools then proceeded to introduce to the large gather- ing of parents, the teachers on their staffs. Mr, John Morrison of the Public School started with lirs, Spencer in Kindergarten; Miss Marilyn Gordon - Grade One; ifiss Elvira Wood - Grade Two; Miss Pauline Dowling - Grade Three; Miss Norah Montey - Grade Four; Mrs. Lois Shubely - Grade Six; Mr. Harry King - Grade Seven; while Mir. Morrison con~ ducts the Grade eight class. Mr. Dave Locking explained he had hoped to add a fourth teacher to the High School this fall, but had only been able to replace the Science and Mathem- atics Teacher with our newcomer, Mir, Terrance Hobin, - Mr, Austin Wilson again headed up (Cont. on next col.) Mr, Papia 5 HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION (Cont, ) the language department and Mr, Locking supplemented on most other subjects. Hr. Ray Kenney introduced the St. hartin's Separate School staff, first with the teachers well-known from previous seasons - Miss Kathy Smith - Kindergarten; Miss Verna Claxton - Grade One; Miss Pat Hunt - Grade Two, and Mr, Kenney taking Grades' seven and eight himself. Two newcomers to teaching, although not new to Terrace Bay, Miss Rita Vezina is teaching Grades three and four, and Mr, Richard liarcella is taking the Grades five and six classes, ir. Willard Vezina next presented the nominating committee's report, and duly conducted the elections. Those to serve the 1956-57 season are: President - Malcolm Craig; lst Vice-President - Lois Hopper; 2nd Vice-President - Evelyn Knauff; Recording Secretary - Louella Ginn; Corresponding Secretary - Jan Faust; Treasurer - Joe Wig; ahd members of the Executive are: Peggy Helmink, Hilda Valiquette, Shirley Stewart, Willard Vezina, Mrs. Hayes and Lois Downey. This slate of officers was then installed by ir, Coe, and the meeting turned over to Mr. Craig. * The evening closed with tea served ** by the retiring executive at St. Martin's the Host school, and a social hour. 0-0-0 RESERVED SEASON SEATS FOR HOCKEY GAMES At a Recreation Committee meeting yesterday it was decided that the best way to handle reserved season seats would be as follows: 1, All those who had reserved season seats last year have from October 15th to October 31st to reserve last years seats or to trade better seat for seat. Phone calls will be accepted to reserve last. years seats but will not be accepted to trade seats. fxample "- Mr, Jones had D red 62 and 63 last year, Between Oct. 15 and 31 Mr, Jones may reserve last years seats by phone or he may go to the Rec, Office and pick up any Two available seats in the arena, 2.
