it i Io tH ie {ta 1a 1O 1 ic = 1m RECIPE OF THE WEEK SOUR CREAM COOKIES 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt af teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 3/k cup shortening 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1-1/2 cups sugar e eggs 5 cup thick sour cream Sift flour, salt, baking powder, soda together. In a mixing bowl, work short- ening until creamy, Stir"in the vanilla. Stir in sugar, then beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time; beat thoroughly after . each addition. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the sour cream, blending well after each addition. Drop by table- spoonfuls about 2" apart 'on greased baking sheets, May be decorated with nut meats, candied cherries or frosted after baking. Parent on the birth of a daughter on December 30th, and, Mr, and Mrs, Joseph Cavanaugh on the birth of a son on December 31st. 0-0-0 1 hg AROUND THE TOWN Laurie Marsh will leave Thursdaj to take up residence in California after a visit in San Francisco with his Uncle, Laurie came to Terrace Bay on Dec, '27th, 1946, taking his schooling in Schreibe until he was stricken with polio in 1948. Two years later he returned to schol, this time in the old Recreation Hall in Terrace Bay and the following year comme enced working at the Imperial Bank of Canada where he remained until December 31let, 1955. ' Laurie was active in school sports prior to his illness, and always served as a member of the student council. Since that time he has remained an ardent bowler and badminton player, last year serving as president of the Badminton Club. Laurie, as one of Terrace Bay's youngest oldtimers, will be missed by the many friends he has acquired in his nine years residence here, and the best wishes of all go with him, Bill Marsh, pre-dentist Sophomore at the University of Minnesota, Duluth Extension left on Monday to resume his studies. Bill had spent-the two haliday weeks at the home of his. parents, Mr, and Mrs, H. N. Marsh, Barb and Ed Brady with-Kathy, Michaet and Jimmy returned to their home in Kap- uskasing, having spent~the past week as guests of Dr, and Mrs, McCausland. Mr, and Mrs, R. Pugh and Gwen of Fort William spent the New Years weekend with their daughter, Kae Graham and family. They were accompanied by Terry Brown, also of Fort William, Mrs. S. P. Jones of Haney, B.C. arrived in time for Christmas with her daughter, Betty Pineault and family and will remain for January. Mr. and Mrs. R,. H.. Cockburn arrived from Sturgeon Falls, Ontario the middle of December for a winter-visit with their daughter, Lois Hopper and family, Lois! nephew George Cockburn travelled with them and remained to spend. his Christmas holidays in Terrace Bay. Magistrate and Mrs,-P.:T. Hake cf Port Arthur were guests of their daughter Lois Haviland and family for the New Years weekend. Mr. and Mrs. J, Cre of Sault Ste, Marie arrived in Terrace Bay in time for Christmas and their usual winter visit with Noreen and Harry Coe and family. (Cont. on page-5)
