ICE CHIPS Sunday!s game between Marathon and Schreiber seemed the type of game that the team with the territorial edge in play was unable to score goals - Schreiber were the underdogs in the pre game gallup poll, and although they didn't play it like underdogs nevertheless came out on the short. end of a 6-2 score, Marathon iced a very formidable aggregation, with strength in all departments, but. they seemed to lack some of the pelished play they showed last season, They seem to have a steading influence on Defense in their coach Bolan, who looks as if he has played plenty of hockey in his day, The goal- tending chore by Jorgenson was at times superb, as he outsmarted the attacking Schreiber players on numerous all out rushes. On the other side of the ledger, the stand-out for Schreiber, even though he spent a goodly portion in the "Sin Bin", was a newcomer in our midst by the name of "Eade", This player looks | as if he will be one to be watched, as _. he is a very fast rusher, and seems to be able to take it as well as dish it out, and he certainly did a lot of both on Sunday. He, in the days play, was a tower of strength on the Schreiber Defense, He was ably assisted by a little "bang-him" smash-him" lad by the name of Kachur who seeims.to be in. the right place at the right time, and backs up from no-one, The first line for N3chreiber" played very good hockey, but had to be used to great extent because of the lack of adequate reserves on their bench, The old standbys, Cosgrove, Bottomley and B. Ross, were very conspicious by their absence, and had they been on the ice, this writer thinks that the score would have been much closer, and possibly an upset would have taken place, For | Marathon P, Morgan, Amadeo, Henderson- Cox, Gerow and Lanteigne were the players of the day, not only Goal-wise but in the working category. They all showed up very well in forechecking, backchecking, (Cont. on next col.) Page 6 ICE CHIPS (Cont.) and just general fine hockey. The game was enjoyable, possibly a "bit ragged at times, but nevertheless one ond eal: Marathon -- Romano-LeBlanc cannot expect too much hockey so early in the season.
