As this is Armistice Day, the Sale will be held in the afternoon starting at 2:00 pem, Here is your chance to take home some freshly baked bread, rolls or pie. 0-0-0 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONCERT November 24th will bring with it the second of this winter's coneerts, Terrace Bay is most fortunate in it's inclusion in the Northwestern Ontario loop, which the Department of Education sponsor each winter. To date too few of our community have availed themselves of the opportunity of enjoying such excellent music and this concert will include artists, all of whom are Outstanding in their own sphere, For the song lover there will be Martha Thomson, Mezzo~soprano and John Ford Taylor tenor, For the instrumental ear there will be Mary McDonald, pianist and Zena Sadoway, violin- Lets Mary McDonald, a most versatile young lady who comes from Toronto. She is a harpsichordist - concert pianist and lyric soprano, and was the first person to win three simultaneous scholarships at Peabody Institute in Baltimore for voice, opera and piano, under the world famous pianist Harold Bauer, Miss McDonald has travelled ex- tensively as a concert artist and lecturer in America and is at present teaching and concertizing in Canada, Martha Thomson's voice aroused consider- able interest even before she finished school in Jamestown, North Dakota, and following studies in New York soon became a member of the Robert Shaw Corale, singing under con- ductors such as Toscanni and Mitropolous, she appeared in several Broadway musicals including "High Button Shoes", and also sang in Radio City Music Hall and the Roxy Theatre, Recently (Cont. on next col.) Miss Thomson has been appearing on radio and television in Italy, making her debut in February of this year at La Scala in Milan in' "Die Valkerie", Zena Sadoway was born in Vancouver B.C. and began her studies at the age of 13 under the late Gregori Garbovitsky. While attending the University of British Columbia she was Concert Mistress and at eighteen became a mamber of the lst violin section of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Following studies in Colorado, California . and New York, Miss -Sadoway is now study- ing with Albert Pratz of the Royai Con- servatory of Music, Toronto, and last year was the recipient of the top violin award granted, John Ford Taylor was the winner of tiie gold medal for tenors at the Canadian National Exhibition in 1954 over twenty- two contestants, Mr, Taylor comes from Chatham, Ontario, and commenced his singing as a boy soprano at many recitals and as church soloist.
