Volume No TENNIS EXHIBITION GAMES, SATURDAY NIGHT AUGUST 20TH The local tennis club has been fortunate in obtaining a group of the better players from the Fort William Tennis Club to put on an exhibition in Terrace Bay Saturday night, August 20th at 8:00 p.m, Among the feature players are Rich Wilson, G. Verge, B, Everett, J, Stitt, Mrs. Val Locking, P. O'Donnell and L, Fryer. Rich Wilson is the former singles champion of the New Ontario Tournament held each year in Fort William, Although he was not successful in his defence of the title he was a finalist this year and teamed up with G, Verge to defend their doubles crown. Bob Everett sucessfully defended his junior singles title this year, Mrs, Locking reached the semie finals in the ladies singles and the finals in the ladies doubles, The other members of the team are of such quality to give a very fine exhibition which we are sure everyone will enjoy. The New Ontario Tournament draws from Toronto to Winnipeg and Duluth, Sunday afternoon at 1:00 psm, there will be matches on the local courts with some of our local players particip+ ating with the Lakehead players, The exhibition on Saturday is being held in the arena at which a silver col- lection will be taken to help defray the expense of bringing this fine entertain- ment to you. o-0-0 LARGEST CIRCULATION IN TERRACE -BAY LONGLAC EMPLOYEES FIGHT FOREST FIREJ! On Friday, August 12th the officials from the Department of Lands and Forests called Don Porter, Mill Manager, re- questing 25 volunteers to fight forest fires in the vicinity of the Pic River, north of Marathon, The call for volunteers was sent out to the mill and in very short order the following men volunteered and were flown by plane to the fire: A. Adrian, H, Krahn, D. Ollen-Bittle, P. Coupal, J. Desaulnicrs, L. Lind, R. Steele, N,. Rennett, T. Cavanaugh, H. Josus, Je Eickmeier, L. Roy, P. Diduch, S. Synishyn, J. Charban, R, LeBlanc, D, Caldwell, S, Reid, J. McEwan, R. Marcella, M. Craig, J. Cummings, L. Dejonghe, and P, LeBlanc, M, Papineau, 0. Papineau, M, Bethune and R,. Vincent, also volunteered their services, but there was'nt any room on the plane, Word was received today that the fire is still out of control and it is not known when the men involved will return.
