A_TRIP TO EUROPE (cent.) of tunnels and vaults where the early Christ- ians held meetings and buried their dead after they had been outlawed by Pilate. We crossed the Tiber River to the Vatican, "a stato within a state", to see the richest museum in the world, containing fabulous gifts given to the Popes since the 15th century. The Sistine Chapel built in 1480 is one sight in Rome no one should miss, The walls are decorated with paintings from the Old and New Testaments by famous men of that day; but it was nct wmtil 1508 that the Pope invited Michaelangelo to paint the ceiling. He locked himself in the Chapel for two years, to avoid criticism until it was finished, so the story goes; and when the decors were opened - there was a masterpiece! He took the best known Bible stories for his subjects including the creation of the world, of herbes, of man and woman, the expulsion from the garden, This chapel is only used when a meeting is called te elect a new Pope. We saw the Church of the Holy Stairs, the ones which Jesus is said to have ascended after receiving a scourging in the court- yard, before being judged by Pilate. We also visited the Church of the Capuchin monks where an underground tomb is decorated in mounds and designs with the skulls and bones of 40,000 monks, St. Peters, with a capacity of 80,000 is decorated inside entirely by gold inlaid and coloured mosaics yet the worm is so fine that at a distance of only 20 feet it looks exactly like a painting. The dome built by Michaelangelo is the largest in the world - 127 feet in diameter and 450 feet high, But it would take a bork to tell of all the things we saw in Romel 0-0-0 IF EVERYONE - By Seymour Taylor If every one who drives a car Coutd lie a month in bed, With broken bones and stitched-up wounds, Or fractures of the head. And there endure the agonies That many people do. They'd never need preach safety Any more to me or you, If every one could stand beside The bed of some close friend And hear the Dector say "No Hope" Before that fatal end, (cont. om next col.) IF EVERYONE (cont. ) Page: 4. it And see him there unconcious Never knowing what took place, The laws and rules of traffic I am sure we'd soon embrace, If every one could meet The wife and children left behind And step into the darkened home Where ence the sunlight shined And look upon "the Vacant Chair," Where Daddy used to sit, I am sure each reckless driver Would be forced to think a bit. If every one who takes a wheel Would say a little prayer, And keep in mind those in the car Depending on his care, And make a vow and pledge himself To never take a chance, The Great Crusade for Safety Would suddenly advance. 0-0-0 HOTEL TERRACE CHRISTMAS DAY MENU Olives Pickles Fruit Cocktail Canadian Pea Seup Reast Young Turkey Roast Sirloin cf Beef Horseradish Sauce Brussel Sprouts Cauliflower au Gratin Croquette or Creamed Potatoes Plum Pudding - Brandy Sauce Maple Nut Sundaae Christmas Cake Fruits Celery Cranberry Sauce Mince Pies Nuts Candies Coffee The above meniwill prevail for mid-day Meal only - hour 12 noon te 1:00 p.m Table reservations required - bookings to be "in not later than Tuesday December 22nd, L953 Price per person $1.75. 0-0-0 FOUND String of beads, Owner may have same by applying at Previncial Police Office,
