One of the most dramatic portions of this great work is Act 3 which, with a repidly-moving program of other excerpts from operas and musical comedies, will be presented by the Basit Horsfall Singers here, Entitled "Cavalcade of Song*, the production will be staged at the Recreation at 83 15 pem, The "Tales of Hoffman" plot revolves around three great loves. The scene to be portrayed, in costume, is the story of Antonia, a beautiful int who has inherited from her mother a glorious voice. Antonia, however, has become consumptive and so frail that she has been forbidden to sing, end Hoffman entreats her to sing no more, Antonia hesitantly agrees, Doctor Miracle, a hypnotist and spirit of evil, suddenly appears, urging Antonia to sing, and, in order to further his scheme, brings back from the grave the soul of her mother who persuades Antonia that it is her duty to use her great gift. Antonia sings, but the-effort is too much for her and, as the vision of her mother and the evil doctor disappear in the shadows, Antonia dies. Echoes of other great operas will be heard, such as songs and duets from Naughty Marietta", "Carmen", "Lady Madcap", "The Great Waltz" and others.
