Dominion Catering News - continued Page Two shake the cook's wrist, then squint at our friend's peaceful physiognomy; after a few such efforts, the cook lazily opened his peepers to find a bear cub sitting on his chest and staring him straight in the eye. To say our man was astonished, let alone badly frightened, is putting it mildly. On regaining his equanimity, after disengaging himself from the fond clutches of aforesaid quadruped, he heartily; that is, most heartily, blankety-blanked the character that brought the animal in and threatened to exterminate both varmints on sight. "Goodness gracious! How was the Cub to know that you were the nervious type, old Boy!" -o0o- Well, well! This time it was our old pal George Shoemaker, all slicked up like a Philadelphia Lawyer, who caught the P.A.Rattler. Strange to say, nobody had to heed the old adage "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts" as George returned home singularly empty handed. Must be those early closing hours, eh, George? seston Esmerelda says: "Most men have a sense of humour; with the women it's a sense of rumour", -o00- Chatter Box Ho, hum! Another muggy day, nothing much to do. Most of the gals are getting a lift out of trying out new hair do's and sweaters. Wonder when those dances are going to start up. Hope that man with the great big green car rolls around soon. Mmmmm! An old pair of slacks and a torn plaid shirt from home -- bet this will make the others jealous. Toss a coin to see if I go to the dance at Schreiber -- heads I go, tails I remain - undecided. HO! Hum! -oCo- A couple of newcomers with us this week: Francis Coupal of New Toronto; and, Emma Campeau i of Nipigon. Welcome ! enna Due to the many requests of late to hold a picnic, we have put our collective heads together and emerged with a plum. How about a weiner roast some Sunday night after work? If this idea meets with your approval, gals, contact Bea. Vaillant or myself. -o0o- If the violent exercise demonstrated by our softball enthusiasts last Sunday, is any indica- tion of their proficiency in this sport -- ladies and gentlemen, rest assured the pennant is practically clasped within our damp, clammy little paw. -o0o- ON THE LAKESHORE The water pumphouse site on Lake Superior has become a hive of activity during the past week. Pile driving is in progress to form a caisson for construction of the pumphouse clearwell; the stiff-leg derrick has been set up and is operating; concrete anchors, which will hold the dredg- ing scow in place, are being poured; and two targets have been set up on shore for proper align- ment of the scow on the water intake line. Within the next week or so, Canada Dredge should be . in the intake bay with some of their equipment to begin their operations. -o00- CHURCH SERVICES - June 15th Rev. Father E. M. Skillen will celebrate Catholic Mass at 10:30 a.m. The Protestant Service will be held at 9:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. A. F. Lavender. Since this service coincides with Father's Day, a large turnout is expected. -o0o-
