6 NORSHORE SENTINEL â€" THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1960 ST. PAUL'S CHURCH SUPPER IS EVENT OF BEARDMORE More than 200 members and guests of St. Paul's United Church, Beardmore, sat down to the congregational dinner recently in the church hall. Following the dinner, which was prepared by the W. A. and served by the friends of the congregation, the young children were taken to the public school to view movies while the adults and children over 12 met to discuss and vote on the program set up for the church's activities for the next year under the solo sector plan. LORRAINE ADELE KAY WEDS WALTER SWANSON IN F. W. Coral tinted mums adorned the altar of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Fort William, for the wedding of Lorraine Adele Kay and Walter Nels Patrick Swanson. Rev. Keith Wilcox officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kay of Hurkett, and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Alma Swanson and the late Peter Swanson of Fort William. Organist, Ellen Cooper, played "Because," and the Lord's Prayer, during the signing of the register. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of nylon organza over layers of net and taffeta. The bodice of chantilly lace featured a scalloped neckline and long sleeves ending in lily points over the hands. A cap of lace over satin encrusted with sequins and pearls held her shoulder length veil of silk illusion. She wore white brocaded bridal slippers. She carried a bouquet of red sweetheart roses and lily of the valley. Maid of honor, Miss Sharon Ann Kay, sister of the bride, wore a coral ice waltz length dress of silk organza over layers of net and taffeta with bolero mittens to match. Miss Willis Travish, bridesmaid, wore a waltz length dress in sea foam green. The dress featured scalloped lace over layers of net and taffeta. Both attendants wore white shoes and white velvet feathered hats. They carried bouquets of white mums. Jocelyn Kay, sister of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a floor length gown of nylon tulle over taffeta. Her headdress was made of matching material with yellow roses dotted in it. She wore white gloves and shoes and carried a basket of yellow and white and mauve baby mums. Best man was George McMartin and ushers were Richard and Allan Otway, nephews of the groom. For the reception, held in the Hurkett W. I. hall, the bride's mother received in a sapphire blue lace dress interwoven with silver over taffeta. She wore a white hat and gloves. Her corsage was of red roses and lily of the valley. The groom's mother received in a violet wool dress with a shaded hat and gloves to match. Her corsage was pink roses and lily of the valley. The wedding cake was made and cut by Mrs. Walter McMartin of Fort William. Mr. Rene Blanchette of Nipigon, sang I Love You Truly during the cutting of the cake. The guest book was circulated by Donna Swanson, niece of the groom. For going away the bride wore a sapphire blue wool sheath dress and a blue velvet hat with gloves to match. Her corsage was of red roses. The couple is residing at 1835 Murray Avenue, Fort William. The meeting was opened by a Scripture reading by Jules Banman. Rev. G. Jardine led the gathering in prayer and the meeting sang "The Church's One Foundation," accompanied by Mrs. L. M. Lein. N. Kilbome, general chairman of the "every person visitation" under the "Solo Sector Plan," explained what the visitation meant, stressing it was a combination financial campaign, educational program, recruiting drive and leadership training course. George McKay, program chairman, explained how the program being presented to the congregation had been evolved through the close working of the program and resources committees. Mr. Kilbom thanked the W. A., the members of the committees and the hostesses for the evening for all the help they had rendered. Rev. G Jardine thanked the members of the general committee, N. Kilbom, Geo. McKay, N. Campbell, Jules Banman and J. Harding for their untiring efforts in getting the plan underway. A motion to accept the program for the forthcoming year's activities as a whole was moved by P. Banman, seconded by R. Scobie and carried by a large majority. The meeting concluded with the showing of a film entitled "Split Level Family," showing how a family living solely for its own comfort made an about face to support the work of the church, lead by the teen-aged daughter.
