It was announced by Mrs. Mary Tolmonen that the board had purchased asbestos siding for the hall. Men will be hired immediately to do the job. The Dorion Home and School program committee met in the school to lay plans for the guest speakers for the monthly meetings. There will be an executive meeting later to approve the plans. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson, and daughter Marilyn were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Swanson. Mrs. Helen Stenlund has returned home from hospital. Mrs. Carol Brochu has returned home after a short stay in hospital. Mr. and Mrs. J. Walton of Fort William and Mrs. W. Lowe of Port Arthur and Mrs. A. Woods of Saskatchewan visited with Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor over the weekend. Mr. Andy Kate of Burnaby, B.C. is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Husilik. Mr. and Mrs. O. Swanson and family spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. Modine in Port Arthur. Ralph Patterson has returned from London, Ont. where he attended the funeral of his grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Stenlund have moved from their home in the valley to take up residence in Hurkett. Walsh left Friday for Columbus, Ohio where they will spend the winter with Mrs. Walsh's daughter, Mrs. P. Shelton. Mr. Harry Shack left Saturday for Mattawa after spending a holiday with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lidkea are holding an Open Reception in the Town Hall Saturday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. on the occasion of the marriage of their eldest daughter, Gail, to Earl Welboume. A Membership Tea was held Sunday, Oct. 9 by Holy Angels P.T.A. in Holy Angels school auditorium. Convener was Mrs. Edna Cox. Serving tea were Mesdames Ruth Spadoni, Connie Gauthier, Penny Caccamo, Emerald Paradis, Iris Pegararo. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bourke and family arrived from Ottawa to spend a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gellert. Nipigon Miss Ingrid Applequist is holidaying in Florida at the home of her aunt. Upon her return Miss Applequist will assume a new position with the Ontario Hydro at Cameron Falls. Mrs. William Baker has returned home after a stay in the hospital at the Lakehead. Rev. Father Meyers will soon take up residence in the almost completed new rectory. It is a medallion home and will be heated electrically. The Cub and Scout organizations of Nipigon held a most successful Apple Day, Saturday, Oct. 15. Mrs. L. Kuusisto and Mrs. June Merrifield have returned after a holiday in Sault Ste. Marie and eastern points. Visiting with the Bruce Dorigo's this week were Donna's mother and father Mr. and Mrs. P. Kuzyk, of Terrace Bay. The four Broughton children were very happy to have Mom home from a short stay in hospital this week. Ted was fortunate in having his "Mom†from Toronto to help keep things running smoothly. Dean and Lenore Jones are receiving congratulations on the arrival of their baby son last week in McKellar hospital. Mr. and Mrs. G. H. McDonald left Sunday for their home in Melville, Sask. after a two week vacation with their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Earl Young. Mrs. Gerry Wag horn and son Timmy have returned from their holiday to Niagara Falls. Richard Lang has left for Ottawa to take a course with Metropolitan Life Insurance company. He will be stationed in Port Arthur. Beardmore Mrs. Lawrence Fraser of Port Colborne is a visitor at the home of her sister, Mrs, D. R. Clarke. Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Fraser have spent some time in the Lakehead this past week visiting their mother Mrs. K. Fraser at McKellar Hospital, where she is recovering from major surgery. She is progressing fairly well but will be in hospital for some time. Recent guests art the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clint Pond were Don Lougheed, nephew of Mrs. Pond, from Ottawa, where he is with the Civil Defence Branch, Darlene Stanzel and Colleen Mac Kay also of Ottawa. Mr. Lougheed is visiting his home in Le Pa. Miss Stanzel is bound for Regina and Miss MacKay for Vancouver. Mrs. P. Salem and children left Sunday to return to her home in Sioux Lookout. Prior to her departure her mother Mrs. C. Pond entertained at a tea in her honor. Among those present were Mrs. H. Goodman, Mrs. V. K. Kennedy, Mrs. B. Nordquist, Mrs. P. Hurd, Mrs. M. Baldwin, Mrs. O. Dickison, Mrs. John Banman, Mrs. N. Kilborne, and Mrs. L. C. Sharp, Most of the ladies were accompanied by their children who visited Jamie and Leslie Ann Salem who shared the honours with their mother. Mr. and Mrs. R. Cuffe of Utterson, Ont., and Mr. and Mrs. H. Bergstrom of Levack, Ont., spent a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Stillwell. Bonnie Bennett, Carl Stillwell and Thomas Dowell, all of Port Arthur, were recent visitors art the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Stillwell. Mr. and Mrs. H. Franz of Winnipeg, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Wicktrom of Port Arthur, and their three children, Lynn, Bruce and Robbie, visited last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Franz. Little Lynn has remained for a few days to visit Brenda Franz. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ross and Mr. and Mrs. James Borsk of Nipigon were Thanksgiving guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Tuomala. Red Rock Sandy McPherson has just returned from an extended vacation in Calgary. The Red Rock Legion will hold a Hallowe'en Masquerade Dance on Oct. 29 in the Legion Hall. Mr. and Mrs. E. Arola of Fort William were week-end visitors in. the community. Mr. and Mrs. William Farrell, Bobby, Sandra and Karen spent the Thanksgiving week-end with the James Farrells, 23 Timmins St. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Farrell, Patrick, Gary and Connie Lou of Fort William spent Sunday at the home of Mr. Farrell's brother, Jim, where a lovely Thanksgiving dinner was enjoyed by four brothers and their families. Mrs. Olive Rajala, president of the Red Rock Figure Skating club, has announced that a professional instructress will likely conduct the classes in Red Rock this season. Through the co-operation of the Lakehead skating clubs and the community programs branch, several instructors have been suggested, and will be contacted shortly. A meeting of the figure skating executive will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7.30 p.m., in the recreation centre. All executive members' are urged to attend this important meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Grace were visited this past week by Mrs. Ross Cummings and Mr. and Mrs. E. Manuel, of Marathon. Mr. and Mrs. J. Diduch of Spanish, OnC were visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Roy and family, of Red Rock. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. Wood were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Morrison and Lorraine, from Port Arthur, accompanied by Miss June Palko. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Pineau and daughter, Mary Anne, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Cano and son Christopher, spent Sunday afternoon visiting Mr. and Mrs. Martin, in Schreiber. The two "Stans" continued on to Terrace Bay, where they took in the North Shore hockey meeting. Schreiber PTA Holds Meeting The Holy Angels Parent Teachers' Association of Schreiber held its meeting in the school auditorium on Wednesday, October 12. The meeting opened 'with a prayer by Father Cano. Mr. John Branchaud presided. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mrs. Ruth Spadoni and a financial report was given by Mrs. Anne Needham. On November 6 at the 9.30 mass, P.TA. members are requested to receive Communion in a body, as the following week is Education Week. Mrs. June Sisson gave a brief talk on the organization of a Brownie pack by the C. W. L. A discussion was held on the pros and cons of T. V. in regard to parents and children. Mrs. Kay Verdone gave a talk on the Community Centre project. Lunch was served by Mrs. Leo Bryan and her committee. LITTLE LEAGUE BANQUET The Nipigon Little League soft-ball banquet will be held Tuesday, October 25, at the Elks hall. Tickets are now on sale through any executive member.
