RED ROCK RAMBLINGS by MARJ COWAN A Spring Mixed Bowling League will begin on Wednesday, April 5, at approximately 7 p.m. Teams are to be made up of five persons (to include at least one woman). Entry will be one dollar per person and the schedule will run for six weeks. The winner will be the one with the total highest pinfall at the end of the schedule. Please enter your team as early as possible. The Women's Auxiliary to the Nipigon Hospital held its election of officers at their Wednesday night meeting. The nominating committee had no success in acquiring a new chairman due to the small attendance. Those in office; Mrs. M. Cowan, past president, Mrs. Adrienne Dawes, vice, Mrs. Velta Paju, treasurer, and Mrs. Edith Sittlinger, secretary. The meeting date has been changed to the fourth Thursday of each month, to enable more members to attend. The Membership drive has been very successful and the response wonderful. A sincere invitation to all to come out and join us in our meetings and in the worthwhile work carried on all year through! Bowling playoffs have begun for the Mixed Couples Winter League. A total of 12 teams have played throughout the winter. Five of these teams have been eliminated. On Wednesday, March 29, the trophy winners will be known. Red Rock teenagers have been busily preparing for the Youth Conference in Kenora, April 6-9. A book drive, bake sale, Teen Queen contest and special dances have enabled the club to raise funds to assist the 20 delegates to travel to Kenora. while each teenager is assisted financially, an established policy makes it necessary for the delegates to provide a portion of the expenses themselves. Red Rock Teen Queen, Mary Reid, will be a very worthy contender in the annual Teen Queen Contest, and has been preparing herself for this very colorful event. The Red Rock dance competitors have not yet been selected, but three couples have been receiving training from dance instructor, Byron Roberts, and will be named later. The Red Rock contribution to the Conference variety show will, be a dance routine in which all delegates will participate. Bob Swain and John Zamojski have been selected as group discussion leaders, and Jackie Gaulin will act as group discussion recorder. Delegates from Red Rock will be accompanied by Al Miller, Director of Recreation, and Fern Gregoire, Assistant Director of Recreation. The group from Red Rock will be joined by delegates from Nipigon. Geraldton and Dor-ion, and will board the Canadian in Red Rock at 12.58 noon Thursday, April 6, The group will arrive back in Red Rock via Canadian on Sunday, April 9, at 10:22 p.m. On Friday and Saturday Mrs. Alan Boal, Instructor, held a work shop in Art at the Recreation Centre. Mrs. Boal, who is an Art graduate from the University of British Columbia, conducted lessons in landscaping in oils, portrait and figure technique, gave instruction in perspective and gave very constructive criticism. Mrs. Boal instructs in Port Arthur and has taught in Terrace Bay in both colors and oils. The Art Club plans to secure her services again in May and in the fall, the dates to be announced later. On Wednesday,,March 22, the 1st Red Rock Girl Guide Company were entertained by the 1st Nipigon Company of Girl Guides. Six Nipigon Guides, Cohnie Gentile, Cathy Lake, Sarah Dampire, Elvie Whent, Isabel Martin and Nora Thompson tried for their Hostess Badges, for which the Guide must prepare and carry out the arrangements of a party. Captain Clearwater, Nipigon, opened the meeting with a brief ceremony and an entertaining variation of inspection. A “Get Acquainted” game was followed by several other games, played in patrols. The Nipigon Girls presented a skit and a quiz show while the Red Rock Girls, Maureen Thompson, Patsy Gannon, Jeanine Auban, Dawn Smith, Judy Ward, and Pauline Rioux presented two skits. The Nipigon hostesses served lunch after the singsong.
