Meeting at Lake Helen Reserve Disappointing 13' 8 '68 By GLENA CLEARWATER NIPIGON â€" A meeting was held here Sunday in the Community hall on Lake Helen Indian Reserve to get the feelings of those concerned on the proposed changes to be made by parliament in the Indian Act. A disappointing number of 18 turned out and not even the chief or the band council were present. A personal invitation had also been issued to a representative of the department of Indian Affairs because it was felt parts of the booklet issued to each home on t hreeserve needed further explanation. No representative showed up. Several at the meeting spoke out strongly against their council who had made no move to get this public meeting together, and Willy John was informed Saturday he is to be the reserve's spokseman at the Lakehead convention this weekend, on these proposed changes. Another meeting is to be called for 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the community hall, and everyone concerned, treaty or non-treaty Indian, is urged to come out.
