- Description
- British troops were withdrawn from Canada in 1870-71 after provisions were made to train the militia of Upper Canada. In June 1871 the commons was converted to a large-scale summer militia training camp called Camp Niagara. Camp Niagara brought a steady stream of troops to Niagara. Militia corps from all over Ontario arrived by steamer or by train almost every summer for ninety years.
