Description
This oil on canvas painting of Major General Sir Isaac Brock was painted from authentic data in the possession of the Hon. John Beverley Robinson. It was painted by John Wycliffe Lowes Forster and is dated 1894. Brock is depicted in profile wearing his red military tunic.

The painting is contained in its original ornate open-work gilt and gesso frame. At the bottom center of the frame there is a gilt cardboard plaque with the following in black: “MAJ. GEN. BROCK TO THE INHABITANTS OF UPPER CANADA. BY UNANIMITY IN OUR COUNCILS AND BY VIGOR IN OUR OPERATIONS, WE WILL TEACH THE ENEMY THIS LESSON. THAT A COUNTRY DEFENDED BY FREE MEN ENTHUSIASTICALLY DEVOTED. TO THE CAUSE OF THEIR KING AND CONSTITUTION, CAN EVER BE CONQUERED. (HE NOBLY FELL ON QUEENSTON HEIGHTS, 13TH OCTOBER, 1812)”
