- A charm that was built into the fireplace of the Nelles Manor, home of Col. Robert Nelles. It was common for charms such as this to be built into fireplaces in the year 1800 or earlier with the belief that they would keep evil spirits away. The Nelles Manor was completed in 1798.
Perhaps they believed it would have kept American intruders away during the years 1812-1814. Unfortunately, the house was eventually occupied by American troops during the war. - Subject(s)
