- Description
- British troops were withdrawn from Canada in 1870-71 after provisions were made to train the militia of Canada. In June 1871 the commons of Niagara were converted to a large-scale summer militia training camp called Camp Niagara. Camp Niagara brought a steady stream of troops to Niagara. Militia corps from from all over Ontario arrived by steamer or by train almost every summer for ninety years.
