A black and white portrait photograph of Mrs. Ezra Annes (Maria Ann Losie).
Maria Ann Losie was the daughter of Joseph G. Losie, a wealthy land owner in Whitby in the 1820s. She was married to Ezra Annes in 1822. In 1857, her husband, Ezra Annes, was elected as Whitby's third mayor. Mrs. Ezra Annes died at Whitby on February 12, 1861 and is buried at St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Port Whitby.
This photograph may have been part of a group picture. The background around Mrs. Annes is painted white, and some of the original background that was not painted over can be seen at lower right. One of the straps hanging from the bonnet appears to have been pasted on before the picture was rephotographed.
