A black and white print of Nicholas Wood Brown.
Notes
Nicholas Wood Brown was born in Whitby Township on August 8, 1821. He farmed until he was eighteen years old and learned the carpenter and joiners trade. He started out as a manufacturer of buggies and crom c.1852 and 1883 he was the proprietor of the Brown and Patterson agricultural implement foundry on Brock Street North in Whitby. He was Deputy Reeve of Whitby in 1860 and 1867. He was Reeve in 1869, 1870 and 1882. He was mayor of Whitby from 1865 to 1866. From 1875 to 1879 he was a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Ontario South. Mr. Brown died on November 21, 1889 and is buried at the Society of Friends' Cemetery, Pickering Township.
