Notes:
Gordon Algernon Vanstone, son of Enoch Ernest Vanstone and Martha Jane Hobbs was born in Pickering Township in 1896. He went overseas with the 116th Battalion and was drafted into the 2nd Battalion in France. He was killed in action near Lillers, France on July 30, 1917 and is buried at Lillers Communal Cemetery. He was the first member of All Saints' Anglican Church Whitby to be killed in the First World War. A memorial service was held at the church on August 19, 1917 and on June 9, 1918 Dr. James Moore of the 116th Battalion unveiled a plaque in his memory in All Saints' Anglican Church.

According to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial website, his service number was 745732. He was part of the Army Unit: Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment) 2nd Battalion. G.A. Vanstone is commemorated on Page 342 of the First World War Book of Remembrance. His remains can be found at LILLERS COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France.
