durhamregion.com The Citizen October 23, 2014 3 Wanted: Theme for next year's Brooklin Spring Fair Suggest the theme for next year's Brooklin Spring Fair and you could win a VIP family experience. The Brooklin Spring Fair recently announced its new 2015 Theme Naming contest, which is open to all ages. Just imagine getting into the fair for free, parking in your reserved spot and then heading over to the packed stands at the demolition derby where front row seats are waiting for you and your family. Each year the fair has a theme, which can be seen in newspaper ads, on parade floats and decorations throughout the fair. Some recent themes have included: Tractors and Tailgates; Barnyard Mardi Gras and Fun in the Sun. The fair is looking for a new theme for next year and is asking everyone to submit ideas. The fair has been a tradition in our community for more than 100 years and continues to grow with new attractions every year. As an agricultural fair, it features local farm displays and competitions including farrier, cattle, sheep and equestrian shows. The midway's rides and food are always popular attractions, as well as the home craft competitions and the ambassador Competition which is open to male and female contestants. In the afternoons families can enjoy live outdoor music, a pet show and a log-sawing competition. In the evenings the demolition derby and tractor pull always attract large crowds. With all this and so much more happening each spring, the possibilities are unlimited for new theme ideas. Do you have a fun theme idea for next year's fair? Visit the fair's website at www.brooklinspringfair.com to enter your ideas before Nov. 1. Entry form, contest rules and prize descriptions can be found there. The winner will be announced on Nov. 30. It's a pleasure to write this monthly column and I look forward to sharing more news from our community in upcoming issues.
