Henry George Perry was born at Franktown,Ontario on October 31, 1920. He move to the Myrtle district in 1928 and to Port Whitby in 1936 where he remained the rest of his life. He worked for the Whitby Public Utilities Commission and General Motors before becoming Manager of the Whitby Liquor Store which opened in 1954. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. In the early 1960s Mr. Perry was a member of the Whitby Public School Board. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 112 in 1959 and became one of its outstanding members, serving as President from 1976-1981. He was named a life member in 1982. He was Legion Zone Commander from 1981-1984 and received the Legion's Meritorious Service Award in 1989. He was one of the founders of the Port Whitby Ratepayers' Association in 1950 and was Chairman of the Centennial Window project at St. John's Anglican Church. He served as Chairman of St.John's Cemetery Board for 25 year, and was a church warden. In 1991 he received the Peter Perry Award as Whitby's Outstanding Citizen.
