Page 6, Thursday, June 8, 1972, WHI TBY FRE sports MOTORING with Mike Burgess The sec recy surrounding the new L&M Porsche-Audi continues for some unknown reason. i talked to Mark Don- ahue last Thursday (who was in the pro- cess of testing the car at Mosport Park) andwas surprised to find that he would not allow any photographs of the c a r u n v e ili1e d (w i th the engine exposed). In any case I got close enough to con- firm my exclusive report a month ago in m y May 4th colurm n. . that· they have turbocharged the 7 litre (427 c. i.d.) engine. But this apparently is suppos- ed to be a secret. Anyway, Donahue set an unofficial I ap record of one minute, fifteen sec- ondseven (an average of approximately 1 1 8 mph ), an d apparently hitting 205 mph on the straight at Mosport. The of- †Tclial I a p record of 1:15:1 was made by Jackie Stewart last year. Jackie Oliver feels that the Penske Racing Team including Mark Donahue, isjust laying a 'smokescreen', and be- lieves that the tests Donohue has been r un n in g were just to hide Porsche's real in t entions from the press and the opposition. Jackie said: "I think that Stuttgart (of the Porsche team) is work- ingon a brandnew Can-Am car that will appear at the first race."
