Notes
George Cameron was born at Picton on 12 February 1839 and came to Whitby about 1846 when his father, Alexander Cameron, was appointed Chief Constable. George trained as a shoemaker and for 40 years taught ballroom dancing at schools in Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Brooklin, Prince Albert, and Picton. He was a keen sportsman and avid horse trainer.

In 1866, as a volunteer member of the Whitby Rifles, George was called up to repulse the Fenian Raid at Fort Erie on 2 June. As a Sargent-Major, he lead 26 men and took 120 prisoners after the battle. He was awarded a Fenian Raid medal in 1902. In September 1866, Ontario County founded the 34th Battalion, of which George was a member, in order to protect the area from further Fenian Raids.

On 28 November 1866, George Cameron married Anna Blanchard at Whitby. The couple moved to Toronto in the 1870s. George died at Toronto on 6 February 1935 and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.
