It's hard to believe that only a few decades ago, on what is now a deserted plot of land, there was once a populated community, driven by an industry which provided those who resided there with homes, schools, recreation facilities and jobs. That village, was the Village of Sulphide.
These days when you ask someone if they have heard of Sulphide, most shake their heads, displaying mildly puzzled expressions. A few will ponder the thought for a moment and respond with, "Isn't there a road in Tweed called Sulphide Road? It takes you right through Hungerford... "
