Ken and Ella Giles, 25th Wedding Anniversary Dinner

Ken and Ella Giles at their 25th wedding anniversary dinner. They married in June 1928. A photograph taken by Denzil Lawrence, school board trustee for Trafalgar Township in the 1950s and 1960s. It is one of 3 others in the TTHS internet collection taken by Mr. Lawrence that night. The Canadian Champion newspaper had a write-up for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration which was held for 200 guests at the Palermo Hall. A link to the article is provided in this record for your further information. Ken was brother to Ethel Giles, their parents were Janet (Hallet) and William Thomas Giles. The Giles family farmed near Merton for several generations. The Giles family were greatly involved with area education. Ken was a supervisor of transportation for both the Oakville Board of Education, and later Halton Board. Ken was also a volunteer fireman and member of the Ontario Firefighters Association. His sister, Ethel Giles, was a much loved area schoolteacher. S.S. #10 Trafalgar was her first school. She had married by the time she taught at the one-room schoolhouse in Palermo, so was known there as Mrs. Wettlaufer.
