- Photo of the St. Marys Quarry taken sometime in the 1940s. A group of people are standing near the water , many in bathing suits. There is a man in uniform at the left, suggesting this is a hot summer day during World War II or shortly after. By 1950, the Quarry was being run as a swimming facility by the municipality and a concrete deck had been poured at the waterfront. Also by the early 1950s, rafts and diving boards had been installed. However, in this photo, the swimmers and spectators are sitting on the limestone ledges at the water's edge. At this time, the Quarry was not officially open for swimming but this was a hard rule to enforce on a hot day.
The Quarry is still a recreational swimming pool, formerly a limestone quarry. It has been enjoyed for decades by St. Marys residents and tourists alike.
