White rectangular quilt with red triangles along the edge, and red quilted circles arranged in a staggered pattern. Inside each circle are are four triangles arranged in a square shape. This pattern is called "Queen's Crown".
Notes:
This quilt was started about 45 years ago (from 1991). The colour red and unbleached cotton seemed to be the only yard material purchased. Quilts were usually made from the cuttings left from home sewing, very often combined with sugar or flour bags that were bleached and laundered. The owner's (Erma Raine's) sister, Mrs. Fred Burger, made the blocks except for two. She ran out of red material about 40 years ago. Raine found some red material that matched, sewed two blocks and completed the quilt top. The ladies at Lion Lutheran Church in Pembroke, ON completed the quilting. "I chose to use red crochet cotton to quilt it. There may be knots and long stitches but they are all pleasant memories. In those days you would never offend anyone to suggest to them how to quilt. If they were willing to come to help, you felt they wouldn't come if they didn't know how. To my knowledge my sister said the pattern is called "Queen's Crown" ". Erma Raine.
