Description
A black and white print showing a front and side view of Spettigue Hall. Signs for two businesses can be seen above the doorways. To the left is "R.S.T. DAVIDSON & CO." and to the right is "J. MOULE JR.".
Merchandise is displayed outside the R.S.T. Davidson & Co. store and a two wheeled cart sits in front of the doorway. There are people standing in front of the building.
Notes
Spettigue Hall (later the Duffield Block) was built in 1871 by Joseph Spettigue. It contained a concert hall on the second floor. When James Duffield bought the building in 1891, he closed the theatre and divided the space into a third floor, which altered the facade.
There is a handwritten inscription on the back of the photograph. The date in the inscription is erroneously given as ca. 1885. This photograph would have been taken ca. 1874-1875 when R.S.T. Davidson & Co. and J. Moule were at this location. PG B27
