- Notes
- The First Congregational Church, later known as Beecher United Church, was designed by Thomas Tracy.
The corner stone was laid June 14, 1875 (London Advertiser Evening Edition, Tuesday, June 15, 1875, p.1, c.5). The Church Opening - Dedication of New Congregational Edifice took place Sunday Aug. 27, 1876 (London Advertiser, Monday, Aug. 28, 1876 p.1 c.5).
When the church closed in 1947, it was purchased by Gordon Jeffery and renamed the Aeolian Hall. This concert hall was noted for its excellent acoustics. It was destroyed by fire on May 20, 1968. The high tower has been preserved.
The inscription, not seen on the digital copy, was added to the original photograph in 1939. PG L30 - Inscriptions
