VICTORIA PARK - HOLY ROLLER

- Sherman tank used by First Hussars throughout WWII,

brought to London after war and situated at Armouries,

then Queen's Park 1950-56 and then to Victoria Park.

- "A Sherman tank that survived the D-Day landing in

Normandy and the final 11 months of the Second World

War."

- Some say it was called the Holy Roller because it is the only Hussar tank which survived the war.

(London Free Press, Nov. 15, 1984, p.A2). However, others claim it got the nickname prior to the D-Day landings.
