Stonecliffe Carnival Ready To Go
BY VANCE GUTZMAN
Organizers are hoping Mother Nature co-operates with them to help make the Stonecliffe Winter Carnival another success.
The annual shin-dig takes place this Saturday, beginning with a piping-hot breakfast served up at the municipal hall beginning at 8 a.m.
That will serve as the precursor of the fun and games which are to follow. They include the annual snowmobile poker run and lively baseball games played outside in the snow.
The days wraps up with a dance featuring live entertainment beginning at 8 p.m.
The poker run has traditionally been one of the biggest drawing cards of the winter carnival, and organizers like Diane Beachamp are hoping for some more snow this week in order to provide quality trails for the 80-kilometre run.
"We get people coming from far and away," Beauchamp said of the poker run, which attracts people from places as diverse as Kingston and Sudbury. Registration for the poker » run begins Saturday morning with the event wrapping up at 4 p.m.
Beauchamp feels the carnival helps bring people in the community closer together, especially in the spirit of the volunteers who help to stage the winter carnival each and every year.
