Action
MACKEY (Special) — The township of Head, Clara and Maria decided to delay taking immediate action at a recent meeting on a proposal to pur¬chase a new truck for its roads department.
Charles Delahunt pointed out that the present vehicle is over 10 years old and requires al¬most constant repairs. The mat¬ter will be decided upon at the forthcoming budget meeting of the township.
Cuts in the rates of honorariums were again discussed and it was indicated by one councillor that the reeve's hon¬orarium should be reduced TO bring it into line with that re¬ceived by other reeves and the rest of council.
However, council decided that honorariums should remain the same as at present with the reeve getting $700 a year; coun¬cillors, $12 for each of the 12 regular meetings a year plus six dollars for special meetings.
Council will ask Pembroke Area Economic Council secret¬ary Dick Wigston to explain the proposed Ottawa River parkway at its meeting of Mar. 12.
It was decided that Reeve Loretta Boissoneault will repre¬sent the townships on the Pem¬broke and Area Airport Com¬mission. In other business, C. R. Merredew of Deep River was appointed legal counsel for the townships.
The Department of Welfare and Family Services in Toronto advised council it must appoint a welfare officer rather than have the reeve or other elected officers act in the capacity. The appointment was left until the next meeting.
Advice will be sought on the matter of uncollected taxes on camp properties. It was learn¬ed that these presented a problem when taxes are not paid; as most are on crown land.
