Description:: This is the C.N.R. rail yard in Rainy River as it appeared in 1935. It is quite a contrast from the current operation. Today the yards handle tonnage far in excess of what was handled during the 'steam engine' days. This is done without the benefit of the shops, coal docks, turntable, freight shed, ice house numerous tracks, etc. Only a fraction of the staff that was required to operate and maintain the steamers are needed today.
