I was born in Red Lake, 6/26/49 at the local Red Cross Station. My parents were Glen A and Janina I Johnston. They drove into Ear Falls behind a road grader which was opening passage along the route. Dad was driving his 1937 Dodge while Mom tried to keep my older brother Clifford A under control. I am not sure of the dates, but it was after WWII. Dad was an Electrical Artificer, Third Class, in the RCVN.

I am going to guess that Dad was the/an Electrician at Ear Falls in 1948...perhaps earlier? They/we did live in a 2 story house in the colony with a black & white dog by the name of Skippy.

Comments/observations are welcome at my e-mail addy.

Hi Frank: I was married to Don MacDonald son of Royden and Gladys MacDonald till Don passed away in 1961. We were married for 27 years and have two wonderful sons, first son named after his grandad, whom he adored and another son called Drew.

The reason I came upon this site, I was wondering what Royden's retirement salary would of been. In 1970 his pension seemed like alot of money. Royden lived to the wonderful age of 91. I was trying to explain to the young people they needed to save their money as soon as they start their first job as one doesn't know how long they might live. With the increase cost of living, how much more a person needs to live comfortably. I can't remember how old Royden was when he retired but I thought he was in his late 50's. he lived say another 34 years of retirement. Although I know he worked for many years after that on cottages in the Nobel ON area

If you have any idea what his salary would of been, I would appreciate knowing the amount.

Thanking you in advance, I remain,

Yours truly,

Carolyn MacDonald
