- Item consists of a photograph of James Knowles Bertram and his mother Jean Bertram Knowles Bertram. James served in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force until he was killed in the Battle of the Somme in 1916. He attained the rank of captain shortly before his death. Jean Knowles Bertram received the Cross of Sacrifice, which was given to mothers who had lost a child in the war.
