This modern photograph shows the Phelps/McAlister house at 641 Mount Pleasant Road. It was built c. 1870 by Epaphras L. Phelps using the frame of what was probably the Abraham Cooke store, established on a 5 1/2 acre plot he was granted in 1836. The McAlister family acquired the house in 1918, and their descendants still live there today.

This photograph was printed on page 201 of The Work of Our Hands by Sharon Jaeger, and was provided by the photographer, Michael O'Byrne.
