- The Shepherd Family Tree is a collection of genealogical family information that begins with James 'Sheephert' of Westburn, Belhelvie, Scotland. This book traces the descendants of his grandson, John Alexander Shepherd, who emigrated from Scotland in 1834 when he was only 19 years old. Everyone in this book is related to John Shepherd either by blood or by marriage. The material for this book was gathered from a myriad of sources that range from old records and pictures stored in the Shepherd Farm House at Scotland to more recent information provided directly by
The Shepherds are a well-known family from the area, having their farm located 1 mile north & ½ mile west of the village of Scotland. The buildings are situated on Lot 2, Concession 13 of Burford Township. In total, the farm consists of 171 acres. It is not known precisely when the current house and barns were built but census records show they did not yet exist in 1860 but were in place by 1870. This makes it one of the oldest houses in the Burford Township.
