Michael Fox was born on March 14, 1953. Seventeen years later, on June 15, 1970, he joined the Royal Navy. From 1973 to 1978 he served the Ajax Frigate and was part of the crew that visited the Town of Ajax in 1976. Mike remembers the visit fondly and stated, “We formed a long and lasting bond, which goes on through the veterans association”.

During Mike’s twenty three year career with the Royal Navy he served several ships. After the Ajax he joined HMS Arethusa, HMS Liverpool, HMS Minerva while in the Falklands and HMS Brilliant during the Gulf War. He also served at the Royal Naval Cookery School and even helped with the Royal Wedding cake. Regardless of where the Royal Navy took him he always had a great fondness for HMS Ajax.

After leaving the Royal Navy on March 14, 1993 Mike joined Her Majesty’s Prison Service and had another seventeen year career. Upon leaving the service in 2010 he became club steward of the Portland Royal British Legion Club and is still there today giving everyone a warm welcome when they visit.

In 2014 Mike visited the Town of Ajax again along with other crew members of the Ajax Frigate to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. He enjoyed his visit and even served behind the bar at the Ajax Legion Club

Michael is still an active member of the HMS Ajax and River Plate Veterans Association and also the Portland Royal Naval Association.
