Joseph Henry Waters was born January 13, 1922 in Ramsgate, Kent. He joined the Royal Marines in May of 1939 and served on HMS Ajax from 1940 to 1941. Until his discharge in 1962, he served in HM ships, Combined Operations and Royal Marine Commandoes taking part in the D-Day Landings/campaign. He also served in the Mediterranean, North Africa and Malaya playing a great part in the time after the war years. At the time of his discharge, Joe was serving in United Kingdom Royal Marines Training Bases.
Joe married Kathleen (Bunty) Filer of the Women’s Royal Naval Service on April 28, 1945. At the end of their Naval careers Joe and Bunty took hotel and catering courses and purchased a small hotel. They ran the hotel until finally retiring in 1987.
After retirement Joe and Bunty enjoyed living in the English Channel seaside town of Ramsgate where they took pleasure in gardening and cooking.
