Dan Daniels was only nineteen years old at the Battle of the River Plate.

Upon his visit to the Town of Ajax he presented Mayor McLean with a plaque. The plaque was originally given to the crew of the Ajax for their assistance after the earthquake in Concepcion, Chile-called the Tobruk mission in 1939.
