Reverend Albert P. Menzies was born at Aylmer, Quebec and came to Ottawa as a small child. He graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, in 1912 with a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity degrees. Following graduation he served one year as assistant minister of Knox Presbyterian Church, Regina, Saskatchewan, and then did post-graduate work at the University of Berlin at Marburg, Germany. He served from 1915 to 1918 as minister of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Whitby, but spent 1915 to 1918 overseas in the First World War while Reverend Samuel G. McCormack acted as supply preacher for him. He had a distinguished military career, rising to the rank of Major and receiving the Military Medal for bravery at Vimy Ridge in 1917. He served at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Russell, Ontario after returning from the war. He served from 1930 to 1948 as Minister of Westboro United Church, Ottawa and held many ministerial offices in Ottawa. He was Chaplain of the Canadian Legion in Ottawa and was active as a leader in the Boy Scouts for 35 years. He was president of the Montreal-Ottawa Conference of the United Church in the 1940's, and died on December 26, 1948 at Ottawa. He is buried in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.
