The Village of ROSSEAU is situated on the north shore of Lake ROSSEAU; the wharfs and immigration sheds were the final destination of the steamers which brought settlers up the Muskoka Lakes. From here, the Nipissing Road took the oxen carts up into Northern Ontario… and still, in the quiet streets , the sense of history lingers. Visit the General Store - opened about 1875, it still retains atmosphere of long ago. 1 The Pinetree Antiques - located in a beautiful old home, offering lovely things from other years. 2 The Village Market - the original building was 1872. Burned and rebuilt in 1926, it has been a hotel, library, tea room and funeral parlour, it is now a shop offering local crafts and excellent Art Gallery. 3 Shadow River - a quiet paddle that winds through forest and field. 4 ROSSEAU LAKE COLLEGE - a co-ed private school on the former summer home of Lady Eaton. 5 Community Hall - 1924 - built in memory of those who died in the war. 6 Home Bake Shop - enjoy some home-made bread, rolls, pies, cake. 7 Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary - 300 acres for the care and rehabilitation of orphaned or injured wildlife. 8 Bear Cave Church - a little log "church in the wilderness", built in 1891. 9 St. Andrews United, built 1878. 10 St. Michael's Roman Catholic - built 1959. 11 Church of the Redeemer- build 1871 (Anglican). 12
