A BIT Of A ROW AT GRIMSBY BEACH ... . The usual quiet of Sunday evening was disturbed at GRIMSBY Beach on Sunday, July 8, when the Beach con- stable and several of the dock hands from the steamer Macassa got into a squabble. That was the first stage of the trouble. The second stage of the trouble was when the deck hands were up before Magistrate Anderson and Allan in GRIMSBY on Monday and the third stage will be when the accused men appear before Judge Campbell in St. Catherines, at an early date. It appears that three or four of the deck hands were in the swings on Sunday evening and the constable or- dered them to leave. This they refused to do. One word led to another and finally the constable endeavored to place one of the boys under arrest. The others interfered and a squabble was the result. Constable Robertson laid informa- tion against two of the men, Alfred Poole, who hails from Brantford, and Belwood Berry, whose home is in Tor- onto. They are quite young men and they came up for trial before the two GRIMSBY magistrates on Monday and were committed for trial before His Honor Judge Campbell. Constable J. Konkle took the lads to St. Cath- arines on Monday evening and they are now in jail awaiting their trial, charged with resisting a constable when performing his duty.
