  • Jetty at Saybrook
Object       Framed Watercolour & Ink Artist description: In this shorescape watercolour I was interested in creating a marked third dimension on a two dimensional plain through the use of one point perspective. The stone blocks are emphasized forming an abstraction in the foreground.

  • Draw Bridge at Cape May
Object       Framed Watercolour and Ink Artist description: This double leaf draw bridge was considered the fastest bridge in America. Eventually, the body of water behind the bridge was filled in to make room for condominiums. Hence, with no need for a bridge, fast or slow, it was removed.

Object       Framed Watercolour Artist description: Ever since I remember, I have been fascinated by bridges. So naturally when I saw this bridge crossing the Potomac in Washington, I just had to sit down and paint it. Of course, I just happened to have my watercolours with me. I remember Peggie and ...

  • Road and River
Object       Framed Water Soluble Paint Artist description: This sketch has a happier feeling. It is one of a few fall subjects that is impasto. I remember I was a little embarrassed to show this happy sketch to people.

  • Ohio Panorama
Object       Framed Water Soluble Paint Artist description: This sketch is another product of the summer of 1936. It was then that I began to think in terms of board compositions, where the landscape itself became the interest point, rather than the close up buildings or boats. The pattern gives a tapestry ...

  • Red Barn in Fall
Object       Framed Oil on Masonite Artist description: This sketch (painted on the spot) has the same pallet knife technique as Road and River and since these are the only two in this style and season I must have painted them close together. Later I painted several large oils using a modified ...

  • A Church, Grand River in Galt
Object       Framed Graphite Artist description: This drawing is the preliminary sketch for a large watercolour. Here is a good example of how a bridge can invite two separate communications. This fact has often been my inspiration to paint bridges.

Object       Framed Watercolour & Ink Artist description: This ornate gate leading into Waterloo Park was built in 1901, commemorating the death of Queen Victoria. • Brick Yard
Object       Framed Water Soluble Paint Artist description: This brick yard resembles another one painted later. It is heavier. The other feeling in this is one of abandonment. Once upon a time it must have been a busy place and now it fits a ghost story. The greens resemble more than before.

Woldemar Neufeld Collection

Laurier’s Woldemar Neufeld Collection is comprised of over 300 works of art and reflects the historical nostalgia of the Waterloo Region and Neufled’s great admiration for the Canadian landscape. During his career he produced substantial body of works ranging from the meticulously representational to the vividly abstract. In 1988, the City of Waterloo and the Neufeld Family transferred the collection to Wilfrid Laurier University to be held in public trust for the citizens of the Region of Waterloo.
