The Quaker Bridge carried an important road over the 1st & 2nd Welland Canals. "Quaker Road" led to the Quaker settlement in Pelham Township, connecting it with Cooks Mills in Crowland Township and with Fort Erie. Stone foundations were removed from the west end of the bridge around 2001, and rebuilt on the "island" in Welland, where a plaque was erected. The east side foundations are presumably in situ, covered by metres of clay dug up in the building and deepening of later canals.
