Incidently, the "McFarland and Co.", burnt sawmill inquired about on the related map was owned by Duncan McFarland, a man who was very influential in Port Robinson's prosperity, and the "Company" was probably my Scottish immigrant ancestor Andrew Elliot, a Sawyer by trade who had a lumber operation in Albany, New York before coming to the Port Robinson area in 1819. His son, James Elliot, was listed in the 1851 Port Robinson Census as "Foreman of Saw Mill." Duncan McFarland was married to James' sister Margaret Elliot. I believe Margaret Street in Port Robinson was named after her and John Street was named after their son, John Cameron McFarland.

I'd sure like to find a similar article about the Sawmill! Thank you again for having these maps available.

I believe the term "broken fronts" refers to the circumstance where the canal splits a Lot - for instance, portions of Lot(s) 213, 203,186, 143, 120,(all the "canal" Lots from Port Robinson to Allanburgh)are on either side of the canal.
